“Hello,” the corpse greeted as she stepped out of the shadows, a pleasant smile gracing her dry lips. “Pleased to meet you. I’m Emily.”
”Likewise.” Angelique grinned up at the young and blue Emily.
"Who may you be, miss?" The corpse titled her head, glancing over the other woman. "Surely you are not one of the dead."
"I…" Emily’s voice trailed off for a moment. For hours she had thought of exactly what she would say - down to the very last word. But now in the situation, she was at a loss for words.
"I want to believe you… I do… Victor…" Emily closed her eyes as she attempted to regain her focus. "Victor, I love you very much… And I…" The hell with it.
And she kissed him.
“Well,” Vicki bit her lip in thought for a moment. “Tell him exactly how you feel. He needs to understand what your feelings are about all of this and for him.”
The blonde sighed. She refused to believe that this was really the end for Emily and Victor. When she had first met Emily she had told her of that love and how much Victor meant to her, and in that Vicki found a forever friend. Emily knew just like Vicki what it was to love so deeply that you cannot be without the other. She didn’t know exactly what Emily had went through to get back to Victor, but she did understand what it was to fight for the man you loved more than anything.
Emily was silent again, but she removed herself from Vicki’s shoulder and glancing up at her dear friend. Tired, sunken eyes focused on Vicki’s and Emily took a moment to think - about what she should say, about how much she truly loved Victor.
“Thank you…” Emily’s words left her pale lips in hardly a whisper. While she was unbelievably grateful for Vicki’s comfort, she had grown weary from all night of heart break.
Vicki smiled warmly at Emily as she nodded. She looked at Emily and could see that the tears and the emotions had taken their toll on her. She knew her friend was already a corpse and looked like a corpse, but even so she could tell that Emily looked very tired and drained.
“What do you say to an old fashioned girls night in?” She grinned at Emily. “I’d feel a lot better if you stayed here with me. You can have your pick of guest bedrooms and you’re welcome to anything else here too.”
"A girl’s night?" Emily tilted her head. Her experience with other women was merely tea and the like, nothing more. To the offer for a room, the corpse nodded. Even if she did not sleep, this night had been overwhelming and truly worn down her already worn down body.
"Thank you so much, Vicki… I am in your debt for this." Then she pulled her friend into another embrace.
“You may sit.” she gestured to the couch as she went to the kitchen. ”I just need a bit of water.” She came out with her glass and sat opposite Sally. ”I am really curious about a lot of things now, and it makes me wonder about my parents.” She looked at her glass. ”You must get these questions all the time. I am sorry, where are you from, before and after you died?”
Emily nodded and sat herself upon the couch, back positioned in a straight manner as it always was. She allowed her hands to rest in her lap and patiently awaited Cindy’s return. When the woman reentered the room, Emily welcomed her with a pleasant smile.
“It does not bother me at all.” The corpse laughed lightly. “Before I died I lived in a small town in England and after I went to the Land of the Dead.”
“I’ve never been there. I have been in France most of my life. My honeymoon was in Spain before the divorce.” She sipped her drink unable to think more about it. ”But I am not that bad off, I went to the opera with a gentleman just this week.” She smiled. ”Do you have a special someone now in the Land of the dead?”
"Divorce?" Emily’s eyes widened in the slightest way. "Oh dear… I am so sorry, Cindy… May I ask what happened?" Her head tilted as she chewed at her bottom lip. "Ah yes, I do… Well, he’s not exactly from the Land of the Dead… Rather from the Land of the Living." A wistful smile grew on the corpse’s lips as her thoughts drifted to Victor.
